Purpose of a HAZOP

A systematic approach to identify and analyze potential deviations in process design and operation. It detects hazards like overpressure, leaks, fires or explosions, evaluates existing safeguards and recommends improvements for safety and operability.

When HAZOP is Conducted

During design phase – before detailed engineering.

During commissioning – to ensure safety readiness.

Before major modifications – under Management of Change (MOC).

HAZOP Team Composition

Includes HAZOP Leader, Process, Instrumentation, and Mechanical Engineers, Operations/Maintenance Representative, Safety Officer, and Scribe.

Benefits

Enhances safety, reliability, and efficiency while reducing risks and downtime.
