A Vehicle Fire Detection & Suppression System (FDSS) is an automatic safety system designed to detect, alert, and extinguish fire in vehicles such as school buses, staff buses, trucks, fuel tankers, and heavy machinery. It ensures passenger safety, asset protection, and regulatory compliance with AIS 135 (MoRTH, Govt. of India).
System Architecture
Early detection of fire in the engine, battery compartment, or passenger cabin.
Quick activation of alarms (visual & audio) to warn driver and passengers.
Compliance with AIS 135 (MoRTH India) and international safety standards.
System Architecture
Fire Detection
Linear Heat Sensing (LHS) Cable – Detects abnormal temperature rise (138°C / 183°C), Short-circuits at fire point → triggers control panel.
Control Panel / ECU – Receives signal from sensors, Activates alarm (audio + visual), Sends discharge signal to suppression cylinder.
Alarm & Alert – Audio Alarm (Hooter/Buzzer) – warns passengers & driver, Visual Indicator (Flashing Light / Dashboard Lamp) – alerts instantly.
Fire Suppression
Cylinder Assembly – Filled with AFFF (Aqueous Film Forming Foam), Capacity: 6L / 9L (as per vehicle engine compartment volume).
Actuation Mechanism – Filled with AFFF (Aqueous Film Forming Foam), Capacity: 6L / 9L (as per vehicle engine compartment volume).
Discharge Network – High-pressure tubing with nozzles covering engine bay.
Working Principle
Fire starts → temperature rises. LHS sensor detects and sends signal to Control Panel.
Control Panel triggers → Alarm system (hooter + lamp).
Suppression discharge via cylinder & nozzles.
Fire extinguished within seconds, preventing spread.
Key Features & Benefits
Automatic & fast fire suppression – minimizes fire damage.
AIS 135 compliant – mandatory for buses in India.
Dual actuation (Auto + Manual) – ensures reliability.
Rugged & vibration resistant – suitable for on-road and off-road vehicles.
Low maintenance – periodic cylinder check & pressure gauge monitoring.
Protects passengers, driver & assets – ensures safety compliance.
Applications
School & Staff Buses
Fuel Tankers / Hazardous Goods Carriers
Public Transport Coaches
Mining & Construction Equipment (dumpers, loaders, excavators)
Armoured & Defence Vehicles
Regulatory Compliance
AIS 135 (MoRTH – India): Fire Detection & Suppression System for buses.
ECE R107 (Europe): Vehicle safety regulation.
NFPA 17 / 2001 (USA): Fire suppression standards.
